Born from two things: a family name and a philosophy
The name comes from Macambira — the founder's middle name, passed down from his maternal grandfather in northeastern Brazil. It's also the name of Bromelia laciniosa, a plant native to the Caatinga biome.
The Caatinga is one of the most unforgiving landscapes on Earth: extreme heat, prolonged droughts, sparse rainfall. Most plants don't survive there. The Macambira does — not by avoiding hardship, but by adapting to it. Its sharp, radiating leaves capture moisture from the air. Its roots hold firm in cracked earth. It doesn't just endure; it provides shelter and sustenance for the ecosystem around it.

Marcelo Macambira
Founder & CEO
Brazilian-American software engineer with over 30 years of experience in data and software engineering. Holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Universidade Federal do Ceará (Brazil) and an M.Sc. in Computer Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University (FL). The "Macamba" in MacambaX — a college nickname that stuck, derived from Macambira, his middle name inherited from his maternal grandfather.
Marcelo grew up between two worlds: the tech-forward United States and the resilient spirit of northeastern Brazil. After decades of building data platforms and leading engineering teams, he turned his focus to what he sees as the next frontier.
Today, Marcelo is deep in the AI space — deploying Generative AI applications in production, building RAG pipelines, and exploring Agentic AI architectures. Back-to-back hackathon winner in 2024 and 2025 with AI-driven solutions, he founded MacambaX to channel that momentum into products built for resilience and real-world utility.
